RSOM Refugees at Otakon

Jul. 27th, 2006 | 11:59 am
posted by: erinfinnegan in rsomrefugees

Extremely rare moderator post! I was wondering if anyone from RSOM Refugees is going to be at Otakon this year? Perhaps in the Artist's Alley?

Do you think it would be a good idea to make buttons for this community, or give out flyers advertising RSOM Refugees? If so, anyone want to throw together some designs (before or on August 1st, but if you're late I can carry this over to other conventions). I'll be making the buttons this weekend, but the flyers I'll print on Tuesday night.

I'll be at table T09 by the way. Also maybe some of you would like to pitch in to this very last minute project?

If you've got your own artsy thing that you want me to promote at Otakon in one way or another let me know before (or on) the 1st of August.

Mr. Right

Title: Mr. Right
Creators:Story Concept : Bethany Koch , Written and Illustrated by : Chris Walker
Summary:A few years ago, this girl apparently had a crush on me (God only knows why >.>) and decided that, rather than being direct and asking about my sexuality, that she'd somewhat stalk me, asking around and prying into my personal life while trying to be inconspicious. It didn't work. So, when I was trying to come up with an idea to use for the RSOM contest I entered, my friend Bethany told me that it would be a great concept. We came up with Mr. Right, a story about Liz and the various ways that she attempts to find out whether or not the hot guy she's been drooling over is gay or not.
Notes: I entered this in RSOM 5, so it's about a year and a half old... If you can spot the Amy Reeder Hadley reference, 10 points to you!
Level of Critique Desired: Since I finished this, I've gone through various critiques on the same story, so I'm not really looking for a critique of it -- I just think it's a somewhat amusing story that may be worth a glance. I've improved a whole lot since I finished this, so any critique on this would just kind of be wasted breath (I hope that doesn't sound pretentious).

Zeddy: Sight Unseen

posted by: tvskyle in rsomrefugees

I heard about this on Ninja Consultants and thought I'd give it a go.

Title: Zeddy: Sight Unseen
Names of Artists/Writers: Kyle A Carrozza (creator of Clare's Stupid Life and MooBeard the Cow Pirate)
Summary: Zeddy, a teenaged geekboy has a fight with his ghost girlfriend as the town and his friends look on bewildered thinking he's talking to himself.
Notes: Yeah, it probably wasn't manga-looking enough for the contest. I gave it a shot anyway. This is from 2004, but I'm still pretty happy with it.
Level of Critique Desired: Go ahead, but be constructive. I don't care about how not-japanese it looks, and I'm aware that the backgrounds are kinda sparse. That's partly deliberate, and also partly because I suck at backgrounds.

To Hell with Destiny!

Title: To Hell with Destiny!
Names of Artists/Writers: Fu Sakugyoku (also creator of Blackmail!)
Summary: An oracle proclaims that Frey Halon will save the world from destruction by wielding a magic sword, saving a princess, and finding a sacred jewel... but not if his jealous friends have anything to say about it!
Notes: This is WAY old, from July to October 2005, so it's not TOO representative of my style anymore; still, (seeing as this community's been awfully quiet lately) critiques would be appreciated-- especially on the panelling and visual storytelling. Also note that uhhh... I didn't finish toning... a LOT of this thing.
Level of Critique Desired: I'd like critiques about as strong and destructive as a nuclear bomb.

Title: The Hitchhiker
Names of Artists/Writers: Rejena Smiley
Summary: A girl tries to learn how to move on from her past troubles... (vague I know, lol)
Notes: You read the pages left to right, but the album orders them by which is the most recent submission.
Level of Critique Desired: Any kind you want to :D Constructive criticism would be the best, I suppose, but any type that you feel in the mood for after you read it. Thanks!

Eros Turannos

Title: Eros Turannos
Names of Artists/Writers: Yasmin Saaka (Shady)
Summary: Ryan Miller thought he finally beat his oldtime rival, Seig Eros...only to find out that this is one battle that he may regret winning after all.
Notes: My entry to RSOM 5 (my third unaccepted entry! Goes to show- try try try again...) which despite the fact that it didn't win, I still feel quite fondly about it. It was supposed to be a goofy story, poking a bit at BL/shounen-ai and generally not taking itself too seriously.
Level of Critique Desired: High (special focus on the story, however- the art is obviously somewhat dated)

Save the Earth

posted by: gothic_hamlet in rsomrefugees

Title: Save the Earth
Names of Artists/Writers: Regan Cerato
Summary: When Earth is discovered as a natural preserve and a haven for alien immigrants, one of the new arrivals, Meer, discovers that the primative, close-minded humans aren't as welcoming as she'd hoped. Fortunately for her, there's always one face in the crowd willing to defy normality, and perhaps Earth is worth saving after all.
Notes: This is part of a longer story that I'm eventually hoping to pitch at the end of May. ^^ For the curious, my older sketches and notes can be found over here.
Level of Critique Desired: High ^_^ But I'd preffer if the focus of the suggestions centered around how I should improve the story/art for the future! ^^

Title: Blackmail!
Names of Artists/Writers: Tse-yu Fu AKA minakichan, assisted by anonymous and darkangelsan
Summary: When Jiro's high school crush witnesses his unfortunate wardrobe malfunction, she coerces him to become her slave; though Miss Lien's face and manner may be pretty, her evil and blackmail perpetuate themselves, and Jiro is forced to decide between self-dignity and love...
Notes: ^_^ I like cliche stories *isshot* Inspiration from... various dorksome guy friends of mine ^^
Level of Critique Desired: Tear it into little pieces, throw them into the fire, stomp on the ashes and bury the remains!

Pleeeeeeeeease critique very harshly! (I sound like a masochist... or someone into S&M) Thanks in advance!

Critique Level: High
Notes: I came up the idea for this after watching Almost Famous, some years ago. I revamped it for one of the RSOM contests.
